Little Dolomites, and Little Amalfi -Basilicata, Italy.

8th May 2016
Today we are travelling through an area known as Little Dolomites. You can see why by the general shape of the mountain range.

We love the mountains and Italy has plenty of them.

The two towns of Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano have a novel way of attracting tourists. They have installed a zip line across the chasm between the two towns and tourists fly across at a great height and great speed. They spend some time in the neighbouring town before "flying" back! Some things you must do when you are young -before you learn how fragile we are!

We parked in the Forrest on a very quiet dirt track. We were well away from people and the area looked safe so we had a campfire - something we rarely do in Eurooe but always do in Australia.
As we sat around the fire we discussed what we had heard about wolves and fires. Of course in spite of knowing all about Australian dingoes we have no experience with Wolves.

While we were sitting quietly we suddenly heard a growling coming from the nearby bushes! There was no mistaking, it was an animal growling! So we rapidly retreated to the camper. The growling went on for some minutes. We had no idea what it could be.

In the bright light of morning we saw a number of feral cats, and suppose that it was a cat that we heard! Oh well -better safe than sorry!

We are now on the part of the coast known as "Little Amalfi". And it is beautiful! The roads are not as narrow as we feared.

Here is the place we chose for lunch!

My kind nod of place -on the water, waves lazily swishing on the beach. This reminds me of some Pacific island resort and will certainly be an important memory for me of the Meditoranian sea.,

After lunch we saw a statue way up on a hill.

This reminds me of similar statues of a religious figure on hills around Fukishima in Japan, where the deity is intended to protect against the sea. Of course we all know how that went for Fukishima! So we hope Italy's Little Amalfi has more luck!

Joe was feeling so bouyed by the roads being wide enough that he decided to try for the top and headed for the statue! This is how our track looked....

And it ended in these aerial clover leafed hairpin bends.

And there she was...

But the views were stunning and well worth the trouble getting there.

If the actual Amalfi Coast is anything like this I can't wait!

But I will have to wait because we will be going to Tunisia (we need to have at least 5 more days out of the Shengan zone to comply with our visa requirements. We are only able to have 90 days in any 180 day period in the Shengan -and our flights are 100 days apart! We have already spent a few days out of the Shengan zone in Bosnia-Hertzogovina and Montenegro, so we have 5 days still to use up outside the zone.) We are heading to Sicily and then to Tunisia.
