Trondheim

17 June 2015
We have spent the day in Trondheim. Our vehicle is due for registration renewal in Qûeensland, and for that we need a safety inspection. Fortunately the nice fellows at the Volvo truck service centre were able to do it almost immediately!

We had a few hours to kill so we went into central Trondheim.

Trondheim has a medieval cathedral, built in the 1600s! Isn't that unimaginable to us Australians? It's incredibly ornate.

We went to the old part of town, which has some similarities to other Norwegian cities, but a certain older charm.

Last night we stayed in a camping area in order to be handy to the truck service centres in the morning. There was competition for the washing machines so we were up later than usual. Joe took this photo at about 12.30am.

We are unsure whether it was a sunset or a sunrise! We don't think it actually gets dark around here lately, so the sun just dips below the horizon and then up again without any real night time. I wonder how it will be once we get above the arctic circle!

After we finished with the mechanics we headed northwards. The next stop was Hell. Yes a town called "Hell". Here is the railway station...

And around the other side, this sign...

We think that is actually not a English language sign. It has something to do with expediting goods. But it suits the occasion.

Tomorrow we will be beginning the "Coastal Highway". This is another of Norways scenic drives, over 600 kms this time. So we may be out if contact for awhile!
